South Funen sits in a shallow, island-strewn sea, and the Øhavsstien follows its coast the whole way round. The walking is easy and the scenery keeps changing: open shore one hour, salt marsh the next, then an old market town.
You can walk it in one long stretch or break it into island sections. Small ferries connect Ærø, Tåsinge and the mainland, and most days finish in a harbour town with somewhere to stay.
What you'll walk through
- Low coast, sea meadows and shifting island views
- Small ferries between Ærø, Tåsinge and the main coast
- Half-timbered market towns like Svendborg and Faaborg
- Ancient burial mounds and manor parklands
Best season
May to October; check the small-island ferry timetables before you go.
Getting there
Svendborg is the natural hub, reached by train from Odense on the main line.
