The fjords that cut into Zealand from the north were shaped by the last ice age, and the Fjordstien follows their shores: Roskilde Fjord, Isefjord, Lammefjord and Holbæk Fjord. Three counties laid it out around 2000 as a shared walking and cycling route, and it often runs right by the water.
The surface keeps changing. Gravel paths, small roads and summer-house lanes make up much of it, with the odd narrow path where cyclists have to push. On ThWay's line you start in Hundested, follow Roskilde Fjord south past Frederikssund, cross over to Holbæk Fjord and then walk up the west side of Isefjord to Rørvig. From Rørvig the ferry takes you back to Hundested in 25 minutes.
