Terms of Service

These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and the ThWay provider identified at the top of this page. They apply when you browse the service, create an account, generate or save a route, or otherwise use ThWay. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Our Privacy Notice explains how we use personal data. If you buy ThWay Plus, the Subscription Terms also apply. The Subscription Terms control if there is a conflict about price, renewal, withdrawal, cancellation, or payment.

You must have legal capacity to enter this agreement. ThWay is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 18, you may use ThWay only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian. A person buying Plus must be at least 18 or have the purchase made or approved by their legal guardian.

Provide accurate information, keep your sign-in method secure, and tell us promptly through contact if you suspect unauthorized access. Accounts are personal and may not be sold, transferred, or shared in a way that compromises security.

You can sign in with a supported provider such as Google. When you do, we may create or connect a ThWay account using the verified account information the provider returns. Google does not become a party to this agreement. The data used for Google sign-in is described in the Privacy Notice.

ThWay helps plan multi-day walking and hiking routes. It is a planning aid, not a live navigation, rescue, emergency, accommodation-booking, or professional safety service. A generated route is a proposal based on available data and the settings you choose; it is not a statement that a path is open, legal, safe, maintained, accessible, or suitable for you.

Trail access, bridges, ferries, borders, weather, wildfire risk, daylight, terrain, and accommodation availability can change. Before and during a trip, check official and current local information, obtain required permissions, carry appropriate maps and equipment, and adapt or abandon the route when conditions require. In an emergency, contact the relevant emergency service.

A free account may save one route. Free features include route generation and viewing, daily distance and walking-hour settings, custom stops, undo, renaming, sharing, and deletion. ThWay Plus is an optional recurring subscription that adds:

• unlimited saved routes;
• full-route and per-day downloads in GPX, KML, and GeoJSON formats;
• custom stay-type filters and route-search width controls; and
• stay swapping and recalculation on saved routes.

Current prices, renewal, withdrawal, and cancellation rules appear in the Subscription Termsand at Stripe Checkout. If Plus ends, your existing routes remain viewable, renameable, shareable, and deletable. New saves above the free limit, downloads, and saved-route recalculation remain locked unless Plus is restored.

We may provide complimentary Plus access. Complimentary access is not a paid subscription, does not renew automatically, and may end on the date shown in account settings or be withdrawn for a legitimate reason. It does not cancel, pause, or refund a separate paid subscription.

You keep any rights you hold in route names, notes, custom stops, and other material you provide. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, copy, process, display, and export that material only as needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve ThWay. This license ends when the material is deleted, except for temporary backups and copies we must retain by law.

A route becomes available to other people only when you create and distribute its share link. A share link is unlisted, but it is not a secret access-control system: anyone who receives it may view the route and may pass the link on. Do not place sensitive personal data in a shared route. You can revoke the link or delete the route, but this cannot recall files, screenshots, or copies another person already made.

You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed for material you submit and for ensuring that it does not unlawfully disclose another person's information.

You may not use ThWay to:

• break the law or infringe another person's rights;
• publish unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or privacy-invasive material;
• bypass access controls, misuse another account, or introduce malicious code;
• probe, disrupt, overload, or interfere with the service or its providers;
• scrape the service, harvest contact details or personal data, or systematically reproduce ThWay content, except where applicable law expressly permits it; or
• reverse engineer or resell the service except to the limited extent such a restriction is prohibited by law.

ThWay's software, interface, branding, editorial material, and service design belong to us or our licensors. These terms give you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the service for its intended purpose; they do not transfer ownership.

Map, trail, and place data may come from open-data projects and other providers, each with its own attribution and license terms. Required attribution is shown in the product and may also accompany exports. Your use of an exported file does not remove third-party rights or attribution obligations that apply to its source data.

We aim to keep ThWay available, but maintenance, security incidents, provider failures, network conditions, and events outside our reasonable control can interrupt the service. We may repair, update, or change features for valid reasons such as security, legal or regulatory requirements, technical compatibility, preventing abuse, or improving the service.

Changes to an ongoing paid digital service will not add a charge without your agreement. Where required by consumer law, we will give clear advance notice of a change that negatively affects access or use beyond a minor extent and explain any right to end the contract. If the paid service is defective or not supplied as agreed, you keep all statutory rights to have it brought into conformity, receive a price reduction, end the contract, or obtain another applicable remedy.

We may restrict or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, protect the service or another person, comply with law, or address a material or repeated breach of these terms. Where appropriate and lawful, we will explain the reason and give you an opportunity to correct the issue before permanent closure.

You can stop using a free account or delete it in account settings. Canceling Plus and deleting an account have different timing and consequences; see the Subscription Terms. Account deletion removes local account and route data subject to the limited retention described in the Privacy Notice.

You remain responsible for your travel choices and for checking a proposed route against current official and on-the-ground information. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses caused solely by inaccurate third-party map data, your settings or decisions, failure to follow official advice, or events outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability, warranties, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights. It also does not exclude liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or personal injury caused by negligence where such liability cannot be excluded.

We may update these terms for a valid reason, including a change in law, security, service functionality, or our business model. The effective date will be updated. We will give reasonable advance notice of a material change where required and will not use a change to remove rights that have already accrued. If you do not accept a material change, you may stop using the service and exercise any cancellation right that applies.

Danish law applies to this agreement. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, this choice does not remove mandatory protections or the courts available to you under the law of your country of residence.

Please first contact us through ThWay contact so we can try to resolve the issue. A Danish consumer may also use the public guidance for finding the appropriate complaint body, including the Danish system administered through Nævnenes Hus where its subject-matter and value requirements are met. You may always use any court or complaint route made available by mandatory law.
